Accident at Buckhorn Preserve Blvd/Durant Entrance

*This project has been completed!

UPDATE 9/15/2024: Classic Stone Gallery has not yet completed the letter etching for the new granite due to a machine/equipment failure.  They hope to have the machine repaired soon to be able to complete this work and install the granite.  Please note that neither management, nor the Association has any control over the time involved in creating this custom, special order piece of granite.  We understand the frustration caused by delays, however, please note the Association has worked hard and been through several granite vendors to be able to find a vendor who would take this job due to size/complexity, and difficulty in sourcing material.

UPDATE July 30th, 2024:  As you may have noticed, progress has come to what appears to be a standstill but we assure you, that’s not the case.  We ran into some unfortunate luck with the granite fabricator that originally created the granite in 2019.  It seems they were recently purchased by another entity who doesn’t have the same high level of customer service we had with the prior owners.  This translated into almost 8 weeks of back and forth with no end in sight.  The Association decided to seek another vendor and after some false starts, we are pleased to be now working with Classic Stone Gallery on Adamo Drive.  They are currently recreating the broken granite in conjunction with Sign Parrot, also in Tampa, who recreated the design work for us.  As of today July 30th, Classic Stone Gallery reports that the new granite has been cut to size, all design work is completed and we are on the schedule for having the design and lettering cut and painted.  They anticipate no more than 2 weeks for that to be completed.  Upon completion, they will also handle the reinstallation.  Once the granite is installed, the landscaping will be completed within one week post granite installation.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but want to be transparent on the details of the project.  We have already received payment from the driver’s insurance that has covered all work to this point and will file a second claim with the Association’s insurance carrier to cover any remainder.  We do not anticipate this incident to have an net impact on Association funds.

As many are aware, there was an accident at the main entrance to Buckhorn Preserve Thursday evening around 8:10 PM that caused significant damage to the entrance monument.  The monument was impacted by a truck causing a section of the wall and the planter to be destroyed.  Friday morning, we met with the residents of the home adjacent to the accident and are happy to find that they did not sustain any injuries.  We have no information on the driver’s condition other than anecdotal information that he was presumably standing and able to talk to people on scene.  Hillsborough County Sheriff’s responded to the scene.  Association Members can track this project in detail here.

Entrance Monument Repair at Buckhorn Preserve Blvd/Durant Road

As many are aware, there was an accident at the main entrance to Buckhorn Preserve Thursday evening around 8:10 PM that caused significant damage to the entrance monument.  The monument was impacted by a truck causing a section of the wall and the planter to be destroyed.  Friday morning, we met with the residents of the home adjacent to the accident and are happy to find that they did not sustain any injuries.  We have no information on the driver’s condition other than anecdotal information that he was presumably standing and able to talk to people on scene.  Hillsborough County Sheriff’s responded to the scene.  The Association filed a claim with it’s insurance agent who stated the claim’s adjuster would investigate the status of the driver’s insurance coverage.  They will make every attempt to have the driver’s insurance cover damages.   We will begin the clean up process Monday morning, March 4th.  We have meetings scheduled with the company that did the original masonry work and the vendor that created the original granite signs.  We will work non-stop to get the entrance back to the original condition before the accident.  We will keep you notified of the latest developments below.  This information is for informational purposes only.

3/21/2024: Repair work continues today with the entrance monument wall going back together!  All masonry materials are onsite.  ITM Construction will not be on-site Friday or Monday due to scheduling conflicts with another job but will be back on Tuesday to continue.  Masonry is expected to be completed next week paving the way for the final top cap which will be poured in place.

3/20/2024:  Building materials begin arriving on-site.  ITM Construction will be on-site until masonry/concrete work is completed.  Complete package was submitted to Hartford Insurance for claims processing today.

3/19/2024: The reconstruction of the wall began this week with ITM Construction doing the final demo and removal of debris.  The remaining blocks were removed down to a level that can be reintegrated into the structure.  The upper portion of the wall which includes the curved portion will be poured in place after the missing lower blocks are replaced.   It was very positive to see the original footer in excellent shape with no signs of damage.   New materials will be delivered this week and we’ll start to see the wall come back to shape!  We’re very thankful to Chivas Davis, owner of ITM Construction, the original builder of the entrance monuments, for clearing his schedule and making these repairs a priority.

In other news, the replacement granite was officially ordered today.  It is being crafted by Arete Industries who will also oversee its installation.  It’s projected to be ready for installation in about 8 weeks.  The wall is projected to be well completed within that time.

3/12/2024: Payment arranged for deposit to ITM Construction.  Final Demo of remaining concrete blocks to begin by middle of next week.  Rebuilding to begin immediately after.  Granite has been ordered.

3/11/2024: Received all quotes from vendors for repair work and compiled it for board review.  In a Special Meeting of the Board of Directors, the Board voted to approve the quotes and submit to Insurance Carrier for Vehicle Driver.  Board voted to not hold up repairs and Association will issue deposit checks to ITM Construction to get wall repairs on their schedule and Arete Industries to begin recreating granite portion of sign.  Granite lead time reported as 10 – 12 weeks.  Deposit checks will be submitted to insurance for reimbursement. Board Approved Dowgal Community Association Services as Project Manager to oversee the project.

3/8/2024: Obtained quotes from ITM Construction, Arete Industries, All American Lawn & Tree for review at BOD meeting scheduled for 3/11/2024 at 6:30pm via Zoom.  Claim has been initiated with vehicle owner’s insurance.  BOD will approve repair quotes obtained from original vendors and they will be sent to vehicle owner’s claim adjuster for review, approval, and funds disbursement.

3/4/2024: Initial Debris removal began.  Met onsite with ITM Construction, the original builder of the Entrance Monument to assess damage.  ITM estimates that wall footer remains intact and reusable but complete reconstruction of wall above footer may be required to ensure structural integrity.  Awaiting work proposal.

Granite portion of monument considered total loss.  Reached out to Arete Industries, the original producer of the granite signs and they will provide quote this week for replacement.

Camera System was not found to have damage but will be moved to avoid damage from repair activities.

Landscape lighting extensively damaged.  Monument lights and landscape lighting will require replacements upon completion of repairs.

Irrigation extensively damaged and will require replacement.

Board of Directors will hold special meeting to discuss this project on 3/11/2024 at 6:30pm via zoom.

3/1/2024: Management met with homeowners affected by the accident.  Management initiated the claims process with Association’s Insurance.  Management notified Board of Directors of current information and issued initial statement.  Vendors have been engaged to provide initial cleanup of debris scheduled to begin Monday 3/4/2024.
